Over the years, the number of increasing cases of cancer has been linked to the ever-changing lifestyles. A lot of research has been carried out on the link between cancer and the changing lifestyles among all groups of people. This has helped researchers establish that there is in deed a link between the kinds of foods that we eat and the ever-increasing cases of cancer.  Although its not exactly known what causes cancer, researchers have established that those who taken foods rich in fats and sugar have a higher risk of contracting cancer compared to those not taking such foods.  People who consume many fats and sugar create room for cancer cells to grow in their bodies because cancer cells feed on sugar and fats.

Although much is being done to enlighten people on the needs of avoiding sugary foods and embracing healthy eating, only a limited number of people are ready to embrace these vital changes and incorporate them in their dietary plans.  Many people especially the young have no respect for set eating habits and they care less on what they consume. Oblivious of the dangers associated with this kind of uncontrolled consumption of the wrong foods, these young people go ahead with their uncontrolled eating habits. This is why these days it’s common to find young people suffering from this disease, something that was very unheard of several years ago. A few years ago, cancer was associated with the old generation and it was not common to hear young people suffering from the disease.

These days even young children are caught at crossroads with the disease.  A change in out lifestyle and more so in our eating habits presents the most formidable weapon against a disease that is threatening to become a monster among our generation.  A lot of work remains undone to address the problem of lifestyle changes as well as the way people perceive disciplined eating to ensure that this disease is put in total check and to stop the havoc being  wrecked by the disease. Many people who suffer  from cancer have either a long history of bad eating habits or have a family links associated with cancer.   If more effort is put in educating people on the dangers of eating unhealthy foods, cancer cases which continue to rise by the day could very well be controlled and the amount of money and suffering that comes as a result of this could also come down.

Prostrate cancer is a cancer that develops in the prostate. A prostrate is a gland in the male reproductive system. It has several symptoms which are difficulty during urinating, problems during sexual intercourse (erectile dysfunction). It affects mainly the aged men of fifty years and above. In a study carried out it shows that 30% of men between age 50 and 70 are infected but the other percentage that is 70% affects men beyond the age of 70. It is the most known killer of all the cancers that are affect men. These deaths are more in developed countries but they are increasingly becoming common in the developing countries.

The major indicators that show that one may have prostate cancer apart from symptoms are physical examination and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). Many low risk cancerous tumors are rectified by a minor surgery. The surgeries are of various types that include radiation therapy or cyro surgery: hormonal therapy and chemotherapy which are reserved for major cases but at times a combination of both is put into practice. In the studies carried out it is believed that masturbation reduces the risk of prostate cancer at a very high rate.

The other symptoms despite the earlier mentioned include frequent journeys to the toilet(urinate)during the day and also during the night a problem known as nocturia, experiencing difficulty in starting and maintaining a steady flow of urine, blood spots observed in the urine (hematuria) and lastly dysuria which is defined as painful urination.

Some of the causes of cancer are genetic, that is they are inherited (family history of a person who was suffering from prostate cancer), obesity (being overweight) and age.  About 2/3 of the patient diagnosed with prostate cancer do not show any of the earlier mentioned symptoms while a 1/3 may show at least one of the symptoms.

The prevention of prostate cancer is by use of several methods which are, medication that somehow reduces the risks at some percentage, frequent ejaculation is also believed to reduce the chances of attaining prostate cancer though the information contradicts an earlier study, the diet should be balanced but they should limit red and processed meat and eat mainly leaf plants and limit alcohol consumption.

The management of prostate cancer involves discussion of whether it is to be treated. This is so in the elderly people due to its low growth rate.

Cancer is increasingly becoming a number one killer and unless measures are taken to control the disease, many people might end up losing their lives as a result of cancer related ailments. Although many of the cancer related ailments can be treated if detected at their onset, many people continue to die of these diseases. Diseases such as prostate cancer rank as the number one killer of men among all cancers in the United States.  Early detection of prostate cancer is critical to a successful treatment procedure. The procedure of treating prostate cancer also depends on the extent of damage that the disease has caused to the body. One of the procedures used in the treatment of prostate cancer is high intensity focused ultrasound treatment procedure.

The hifu procedure involves the use high intensity focused ultrasound rays which are directed to the affected part.  A high intensity focused ultrasound beam is directed to the affected part thereby damaging all the cancerous cells. The procedure is only effective in single tumor cancers and cannot be used on tumor that has spread to other parts of the body. The technology used in hifu procedure is similar to directing sunrays on a particular place using a magnifying glass.  One of the reasons why this procedure is considered one of the most effective in the treatment of prostate cancer is because it can be monitored as it progresses by the doctor to ensure every cancerous tumor is eliminated.  The doctor is able to direct the rays to the affected parts only and no other part can be affected by this procedure. Other healthy cells bordering the affected part cannot be destroyed when hifu treatment is administered to prostate cancer patients. The procedure only takes a short time and therefore one does not need to remain in hospital before or after the procedure. One can have the procedure performed on the same day they come to hospital. One is given one or two hours to rest after the procedure after which they are allowed to go home. The procedure is considered one of the most effective because it comes with fewer side effects.  Side effects such as erectile dysfunction which are associated with other prostate cancer treatment do not occur when hifu procedure is used. This is because it does not destroy healthy cells adjacent to the affected parts. The procedure does not involve surgery and therefore healing takes place fast. One can go back to their normal lives a few days after treatment

Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancers with new cases being reported daily. One important step towards ensuring skin cancer is kept in check is by establishing the factors that can cause cancer and finding ways of protecting yourself. This is important because it helps in detecting the diseases at its onset which facilitates effectual treatment.

The two types of skin cancer commonly found are keratinocytes and melanomas, with the latter being uncommon but more dangerous. This type of cancer needs to be located and treated without delay because any delay in its treatment may lead to spread of the disease to other body parts.

One of the major causes of skin cancer is sunlight rays. Ultraviolet rays have the ability to affect your skin even in cloudy weather. Using sunscreen will help prevent sun-rays attack. Exposing your skin to direct sunlight increases the risks of contracting skin cancer. It’s advisable that you rest under shades and avoid staying outdoors when the sun is hot. Use of sunglasses and hats can help you protect yourself from dangerous ultraviolet rays. Tanning beds are another risk factor when it comes to skin cancers.

People who have fair skin are at a greater risk of contracting melanomas skin cancer compared to those whose skin is dark. The reason for this is because skin pigment acts as protection from ultraviolet rays. Red hair and light colored eyes are also another cause of concern as far as skin cancer is concerned since they increase the risk of the disease.

Other factors include-

a)      A family with a history of skin cancer.

b)      Direct sunlight

c)      Moles

d)     Old age

e)      Weak immune system

Irrespective of the risks facing you, it’s advisable that you undergo an examination every month to establish the health of your skin. If detected early many of these diseases can easily be treated. Always look for any unusual growth on your skin. It’s advisable that you visit a skin specialist every year for a thorough check-up.

If a skin specialist comes across an unusual spot on your skin, he may decide to carryout a comprehensive check to determine whether the growth is skin cancer and at what stage and what type of cancer it may be before the start of treatment. If cancer is detected early enough, the doctor will decide on the best method of treatment.

Although it’s impossible to avoid ultraviolet rays, it’s always advisable that one takes the necessary precaution to lower the risks of getting skin cancer.

Urethral Cancer is a painful and potentially lethal condition in which a cancer originates from the urethra, which is the tubular part of the excretory system of the human body which connects to the urinary bladder and discharges the urine from the body.

Causes

The occurrence of cancer in any part of the body is not explained. Most probably the development of cancer is associated with a chromosome problem that causes the appearance and growth of malignant cells. This could be caused as a result from exposure to certain carcinogenic agents, stimuli or substances which could cause of cancer.

However, while discussing the causes of Urethral Cancer, it is important to know who are at risk of this disease and in what conditions. People who have been suffering from bladder cancer are more likely to develop Urethral Cancer than any other people. People who develop frequent inflammations of the urethra, those above the age of 60, especially white females, have a tendency to develop Urethral Cancer than most other people.

Symptoms

The symptoms of Urethral Cancer include the following.

· Frequent urination

· Blood in urine

· Bleeding in the urethra

· Discharge from urethra

· Lump in the perineum

· Weak flow of urine

· Interrupted flow of urine

Diagnosis

There are several tests that could be carried out for determining that a person is suffering from Urethral Cancer. First of all, the patient will be examined physically by the physician in which he or she will be examined for the apparent signs and symptoms such as lumps or enlarged lymph nodes. Then, further tests and screenings will be prescribed to determine the presence of cancerous cells. These tests include laboratory tests and examinations such as rectal and pelvic exams which are carried out for the signs of the disease.

Laboratory tests for the diagnosis of Urethral Cancer include Urinalysis and Urine Cytology, which respectively check for the nature of problem through the analysis of the properties and composition of urine and the presence of malicious cells respectively. Complete Blood Count test is also recommended. Cystoscopy could be carried out which involves inserting a thin tube into the urethra and the urinary bladder to check for the presence of cancerous cells. In most cases, a biopsy of the tissues will be taken for examination to confirm the presence of cancer.

Scans such as X-rays, MRI and CT scans are used to determine the size and staging of the cancer to prescribe proper treatment. The staging is determined according to the part of urethra that is affected. Anterior Urethral Cancer is not too advanced or deep, while the Posterior Urethral Cancer is deep rooted and in advanced stage. Anterior parts are closer to the body opening, while the posterior part of the urethra is next to the urinary bladder and in males, the prostate gland.

Treatment

Once the presence of Urethral Cancer is determined, the appropriate treatment for the particular stage of the cancer is prescribed. There are various treatment options available for Urethral Cancer. The type of treatment depends on the stage of the cancer and the damage done to the tissues around the urethra, especially when the cancer has reached other organs like the urinary bladder.

Surgery is one of the most widely practiced treatments for Urethral Cancer. There are quite a few surgery types used in this regard.

-Open Excision: Surgical removal of the urethra.

-Laser Surgery: Using laser beams for surgery and removing cancerous cells.

-Lymph Node Dissection: Removal of the lymph nodes in the groin area affected from the cancer.

-Electro-resection: Using electric current for the removal or destruction of the cancer cells.

-Cystourethectomy: Surgical removal of the urethra and urinary bladder affected by the cancer.

-Radical penectomy: Surgical removal of the perineum affected by the cancer.

Cystoprostatectomy: Surgical removal of the prostate and bladder affected by the cancer in males.

Radiation therapy is another method of treatment in which X-rays of very high energy are used to destroy the cancerous cells. Alternatively, or combined with surgery, chemotherapy is also administered to control the growth of the cancer.

Urethral Cancer is a rare type of cancer which occurs more frequently in females.
