I came into this world weighing only 5 pounds. Throughout my childhood, looking at my thin frame, my parents were constantly advised to feed me with fattening foods, and they did so religiously. My demand for French fries and cheese laden dishes were constantly met, and I was happy to gorge on calorie laden food which was not permitted to kids of my age.

The first signs of a little paunch started showing on my body by the time I was 8, but that was dismissed by my parents as something normal for a kid my age.

It was not until I reached high school that I can become conscious of my bulging midriff. If in my childhood I was forced to eat, now was the time when I was asked to restrict myself. It was the lack of social interaction in college that made me aware of my belly fat, and I tried numerous crash diets without much success.

I gradually became conscious of my unshapely body and started avoiding going to parties, and food became my sole comforting companion. However, I told myself that my best companion was my biggest foe after I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and raised sugar levels. This was the time I realized I had to do something about my belly fat.

I was 27 when these medical problems were detected, and they sure were an eye opener. I turned over a new leaf and did extensive research to find out about some unique 6 pack abs secrets. My consistent efforts finally paid off, and I am now the proud owner of a disease free body.

To help others in the same situation, I will share some distinctive six pack ab muscle secrets:

• Early to bed and early to rise really made me wise: I was a nocturnal creature, but I started going to bed a little early so that I could wake up by 6 every morning and devote this extra time to go for a brisk walk or do a cardio workout.

• Green veggies and fruits are vital if you want to take the 6 pack abs secret route: Instead of binging on calorie laden food, I started snacking on protein bars and baby carrots. My day began with a fruit, followed by a breakfast comprising of a slice of whole grain bread and omelets made from egg whites. I used to have whole grain sandwich for lunch, and dinner was mainly protein in the form of grilled chicken, fish, or boiled legumes. Fried food was replaced by grilled and steamed dishes.

• Regular exercise: Along with diet control, I used to devote 30-45 minutes a day doing cardio exercise. Once the stomach fat started to disappear, I added strength training and abs workouts in my exercise routine to tighten the abdominal muscles.
