Where can I buy a treadmill?

You might be asking yourself: Where can I buy a treadmill?

Treadmills are a very popular piece of exercise equipment because of their relatively convenient size, their ability to be placed indoors, and their many adjustable features. Running is a common form of physical exercise among many people, and the treadmill machine allows for running, jogging and even walking long distances –all while remaining indoors!

If you live in an area that has bad weather, extreme heat or cold, or simply has no place for you to get your daily running, jogging or walking in, a treadmill may be the perfect option for you.

Depending on where you buy the treadmill, you may find a variety of different purchase options. There are many different types of treadmills to be found. Some are entirely machine operated, and the track of the treadmill runs using the controls of the machine.

Others are called manual treadmills, which use the force of your own feet to make the track move. Manual treadmills are typically lower in price, small, and often foldable or portable. Machine operated treadmills tend to be larger, more expensive, and typically not foldable.

One benefit to manual treadmills is that the speed of the treadmill track is entirely up to you—the downside being that you are not able to control your workout as quickly and easily as you would with a treadmill operated by machine, which can stop, start, slow down, speed up, and even change incline levels with the press of a button.

But where to buy the treadmill you want? The key is to know the most common places to purchase the type of treadmill you are hoping to buy.

If you are hoping to purchase a lower end manual treadmill, you will want to first look at general stores such as Target, Meijer, other supermarket style retail locations. These locations sell exercise equipment that is typically more affordable, although the quality may reflect the price.

Manual treadmills are popular among those who need a machine that won’t take up a lot of space and doesn’t cost more than a hundred dollars or so. You will also find manual treadmills online at superstore websites such as Amazon.com.

If you are looking to buy a treadmill where you can see it in person, rather than online, it’s recommended that you first try retail supermarket stores.

If you are hoping to purchase a machine operated treadmill, you are in luck—most major stores that sell exercise equipment will at least have one model of machine operated treadmill, though most have more than one. Most exercise retail stores also have websites where the same models—and often more, since they don’t need to be kept in stock at retail locations—can be purchased.

Superstore websites like Amazon.com also feature treadmills operated through machine power. The price of a machine operated treadmill will often be considerably more than a manual powered treadmill, and the size will also usually be larger.

Price will be affected by size, quality, number of features, model of the machine, and even the brand of the company that made it.

Where you buy your treadmill will also reflect the price and quality of the selection present. Higher end treadmills, such as those commonly found at exercise gyms and spas, will need to be purchased at more exclusive exercise equipment stores.

If you are looking for the highest quality in treadmill, you may not be able to see it physically in person before you purchase, depending on whether or not you have more high end exercise equipment stores in your area. The good news is that most high end exercise equipment companies would certainly have a higher level of customer service, should your high end treadmill arrive damaged, incomplete, or otherwise not up to snuff.

If you are looking for a gym quality treadmill, higher end stores are typically the way to go—though note that you will be paying in the thousands for a treadmill that features the same quality as the sturdy and reliable machines at a nice exercise gym.

Gym quality treadmills will often feature a wide range of features such as digital incline changes, built in fans, the ability to play mp3 players through speakers, and even personalized “trainer” features which automatically change the speed and incline of the treadmill.

If you are looking to buy a treadmill where you can see the model in person beforehand, you might want to consider buying a treadmill that has less quality than that of a gym treadmill. These treadmills are considered to be called “High end consumer” treadmills.

High end consumer treadmills are certainly good quality, built sturdily, made by respectable exercise brands, and have quite a few special features. The main difference between high end consumer treadmills and gym quality treadmills tends to be the size and overall sturdiness.

Gym quality treadmills are often long and wide, to give the user maximum space and traction needed to get an indoor running, jogging or walking exercise. High end consumer treadmills, while not short by any means, will still be shorter than gym quality treadmills.

Where you buy your high end consumer treadmill will also reflect its length and sturdiness—a high end consumer treadmill from a more reputable exercise equipment company, made by a respected exercise equipment brand, is more likely to have better quality than a no-name brand “high end” consumer treadmill bought from the local retail superstore.

Thankfully, there are many quality high end consumer treadmill machines to be bought, and most boast a good variety of features that many will love.

Features that are often found in gym quality treadmills are often found in high end consumer treadmills, such as built in mp3 player functions, built in trainer programs, fans, and the ability to change the speed of the treadmill track and even the incline of the track itself.

Where you decide to buy the treadmill from does affect the price, however—it’s always best to shop around, so to speak, to look for the best deals. One website may sell the high end consumer treadmill for full retail price, while the price in a store for the same high end consumer treadmill may be hundreds of dollars cheaper.

This is especially true of older models around the holiday season and the New Year season. Many stores look to sell off their current stock of treadmills (and other exercise equipment such as elliptical, stationary bikes, and weight machines) and so they slash the prices hundreds or even thousands of dollars in order to make room for the new models that are sure to come once the New Year hits.

Why is this? New Year’s resolutions, of course! Everyone vows to lose weight and thousands end up purchasing new exercise equipment.

But what if you’re not sure which treadmill you really want? What if you’re unfamiliar with treadmill terms, features, and quality? Then, where you buy your treadmill from can be a very important decision for you.

If you are really unsure of what you want in a treadmill, or what you should be looking for in a treadmill machine, you should go to an exercise equipment store in your area to inquire.

Not only will there be a decent selection of treadmills, you will have someone there that knows about treadmill machines to ask you questions and help you decide what machine is likely the best fit for you. Another bonus to shopping physically at a retail location is that many places will allow people to test drive the equipment… however, be sure to ask before doing so!

Trying out exercise equipment can be something that helps you figure out if the machine is best for you. Does the track flow smoothly? Do the balance bars hit at the right height for you? Is it comfortable to use? All of this can be figured out physically at the store, and could not be decided online, where you can simply read reviews, look at the specs and hope for the best.

However, it is not to say you shouldn’t buy treadmills where you can’t try them out—that is, through online websites and other online ordering. Sometimes you can find great deals for treadmills online or even buy used models at much better prices than in the store.

Many treadmill models, both manual and machine powered, can only be purchased at online websites. This option will give you a much wider range than purchasing treadmills physically at a store.

For example, an exercise equipment store may have twenty different treadmill models available for purchase at the store. By contrast, a website may have hundreds of different treadmill models available for you to purchase!

Overall, where you buy your treadmill will reflect in the price, quality, and variety of the machines available.
